How large can the crust of a strange star be?
نویسنده
چکیده
The effect of the magnetic field on the electrostatic potential of electrons inside and in close vicinity outside the quark surface of the star is studied. Depending on the value of the crust potential and the electron chemical potential at the base of the nuclear crust, we find that the strong surface magnetic field, 1.0 × 1014 ≤ H ≤ 3.0 × 1016 Gauss leads to a considerable reduction of the electrostatic potential which is responsible for holding the nuclear crust. For those values of the magnetic fields, strange stars are unlikely to possess a thick nuclear crust. The magnetic field intensity lying outside this range does not have any effect on the crust mass.

Strange stars : how dense can their crust be ? ?
The strong electric field at the surface of a strange star is discussed, and a self-consistent model is proposed to calculate its capability of supporting a “normal” nuclear material crust. We find that the electric field is already not able to support the crust even when the bottom density of the crust is still considerably lower than the neutron drip point, which means that it is not the neutr...
متن کاملA pr 1 99 8 A Strange Star Model for Pulsars
It is suggested in this paper that the ‘bare’ strange star might be not bare, and there could be a magnetosphere around it. As a strange star might be an intensely magnetized rotator, the induced unipolar electric field would be large enough to construct a magnetosphere around the strange matter core. This kind of magnetosphere is very similar to that of the rotating magnetized neutron stars di...
متن کاملRX J 1856 . 5 - 3754 as a possible Strange Star candidate
RX J1856.5-3754 has been proposed as a strange star candidate due to its very small apparent radius measured from its X-ray thermal spectrum. However, its optical emission requires a much larger radius and thus most of the stellar surface must be cold and undetectable in X-rays. In the case the star is a neutron star such a surface temperature distribution can be explained by the presence of a ...
متن کاملAre Pulsars Bare Strange Stars?
It is believed that pulsars are neutron stars or strange stars with crusts. However we suggest here that pulsars may be bare strange stars (i.e., strange stars without crust). Due to rapid rotation and strong emission, young strange stars produced in supernova explosions should be bare when they act as radio pulsars. Because of strong magnetic field, two polar-crusts would shield the polar caps...
متن کاملThe crust of rotating strange quark stars
Calculations of the properties of rotating strange stars with crusts are performed within the framework of general relativity. We employ an equation of state (EOS) of strange quark matter based on the MIT Bag Model with massive strange quarks and lowest order QCD interactions. The crust is described by the BPS equation of state. A significant increase of the stellar radius is found close to the...
